Early Times Report
Jammu , Oct 12
It is evident from the past few examples that all is not going well within the coalition government, particularly between the coalition partners NC and Congress. Recent outburst raised by senior National Conference leader and MLA Hazratbal Mustafa Kamal against Congress for ditching National Conference right from Sheikh Abdullah to Farooq to present leader Omar. It is an old practice continuing in the state and Delhi always.
Ch. Lal Singh, MP, Udhampur-Kathua region in a bold statement lashed out at separatists and all those who directly and indirectly supported them. In an interaction with media recently, he condemned the action of separatists and their supporters for creating law and order problem.
When the whole valley was burning for three months, one community always stood by the country despite risking their lives the Gujjars and Bakarwals- which constitute a sizeable population not only in valley, but in whole of the state. The Gujjars of state also rejected the Azadi slogan or so called freedom from India. They, while, interacting with parliamentary delegation in Srinagar and Jammu outrightly rejected the separatist slogans and expressed full faith in Indian constitution.
Despite this, the Gujjars and Bakarwals are being pushed to corner by the Omar government and the discrimination against the community is going unabated.
This is evident from the fact the coalition partner Congress leader, Ch. Bashir Naz raised this issue with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding discrimination with Gujjars and Bakerwals in recent recruitments conducted by J&K Public Service Commission, J&K Service Selection Board and State Police under Scheduled Tribe category.,
In a statement, Ch Bashir Ahmed Naz Vice Chairman of State Advisory Board for Gujjars and Bakerwals today said that these tribes have been ignored and pushed to the wall by selecting committees.
He, further, said that Gujjars and Bakerwals who constitute more than 80% of tribal population (STs) were getting less than 20% from over all ST quota which was unjust and discriminatory . He urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and direct recruitment agencies to shun their unfair approach toward Gujjars.
Quoting the recent examples from a recruitment conducted by Police where under only 10 Gujjars candidates have been selected as Sub Inspectors out of total 52 ST seats and 42 goes to other tribes and added. the community feel discriminated at the hands of all recruitment agencies, including state police.
J&K Public Service Commission is also bent upon to suppress the rights of Gujjars and Bakerwals who fall under reserved ST category .They are selecting candidate from others tribes in ST at the cast of Gujjars and Bakerwals which is unjust and intolerable. He said there are a number of examples in PSC where Gujjar candidates were suppressed.
Quoting an example of lists of English Lecturer released by PSC recently , Naz said under ST category total 14 candidates were selected in which 7 belonged to Shina tribe of Gureze and Kargil. In the same list only 2 candidate belongs to Gujjar Bakerwal tribe and as per our share Gujjars deserves 10 out of 14 seats, he added. He said recently PSC has selected 7 Munisifs under ST category only 3 belongs to Gujjars and as per population they should be at least 5 out of 7.
Meanwhile, Naz urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take appropriate measures to do justice with the downtrodden community so that they won’t feel neglected and ignored.
