Factory owner, manager booked for employee's death | | | ET REPORT JAMMU, Oct 12: The owner and a manager of Narmada Steel Factory, Gangyal have been booked for their alleged negligence due to which one of their employees died in an incident that took place inside the unit. A case under section 304-A Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been registered against both the persons. Gangyal police started inquest proceedings (174 Cr PC) following the death of the employee Ranjeet Kumar in the factory three months ago. The matter was re- investigated by SHO Satwari Bishesh Kumar and SHO Gangyal Arun Jamwal on the directions of SDPO Gandhi Nagar Mohan Lal Kaith. As a part of investigation, eye witnesses were summoned and their statements were recorded on the basis of which it was established that the cause of death was due to the poor management and lack of proper working facilities to the employees. Accordingly a case was registered against owner of factory Subash Gupta and manager Bharat Bhushan. A police team was being dispatched in late hours to arrest them. Pertinent to mention here that Ranjeet Kumar received burn injuries in the factory while manufacturing iron bars. His legs were caught in the furnace and he was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead. Owner and manager of the factory when summoned by police to inquire the incident gave the statement that it was employee's own negligence due to which he got caught in furnace. However, during investigation it was found that the factory owner was not adhering to norms prescribed by government as no heat resistant shoes were made available to any employee of the factory. It was also established that earlier burn injuries on several occasions were caused to the employees for non-availability of heat such equipments. |
