'Ineffective' opposition makes NC emerge 'gainer' during Assembly session | PDP's boycott a political blunder? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 12: The Autumn session of J&K legislature, happily so, is over, writing and registering few more 'chapters' of proceedings, in particular Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's 'historic' speech in its annals of record. But contrary to what everyone had speculated earlier, it went on smoothly, with main opposition PDP having failed to take on government. In all if BJP and Panthers Party managed to register 'thunderous' presence during the last two days thereby addressing their political constituencies to some extent, PDP remained a net loser in the whole 'show', their decision of boycott being the main reason, providing rivals NC an easy opportunity to manage gain some lost ground. Even though PDP has been crying hoarse through its hard hitting statements on the Kashmir situation, cursing and abusing the NC led coalition government day in and day out, literally for everything right or wrong, the fact remains by choosing to stay away from the Assembly, it has only made itself redundant in the political space and reduced its statements to mere rhetoric, no matter the leaders try to empathize and sympathize with the common masses for their sufferings. During the course of entire session and even after its culmination PDP without a miss, issued statements reminding government of its mistakes, the miseries inflicted on people and what they like to term as 'unabated' killings of innocent people at the hands of forces. True as the main opposition they need not only highlight but make a loud cry against sufferings of people. But why did they choose to take the route of statements instead of taking the government, NC in particular head on inside the Legislature…..? This is a moot question which not only the common people are asking today but even some rational voices within PDP are wondering about as to what made the leadership take this decision which made them a net loser in the whole scene and allowed NC a cakewalk on everything. While PDP, as on date might be cursing for having deciding to boycott, NC leadership is virtually thanking them for their absence for it allowed them not only conduct their proceedings smoothly but also make a resounding political presence, courtesy Omar Abdullah's speech on the floor of the House. Observers have it to say that if PDP is blaming NC for its 'farcical tactics'……., fast eroding credibility……….anti people policies, it too is in for sharp criticism from all quarters almost on similar lines, its decision of Assembly boycott being the focal point that has only earned a bad image in the eyes of the masses. What went wrong with otherwise a shrewd and politically calculated leadership on this decision…? Critics say its analysis an assessment about the ground situation perhaps did not match with the decision of boycott nor did they anticipate the 'mood' of the masses for whom PDP strategy remained unheeded, unnoticed, giving no importance to it at all. Also, the first few days of media and masses attention on Ayodhya verdict overshadowed the J&K Assembly session and PDP boycott in it. Be that as it may, just concluded Autumn session can be seen as one conspicuous by 'ineffective' opposition role and its complete absence during the last two days, paving way for government, NC in particular to emerge as 'gainer.' |
