NC-Cong coalition biased towards Jammu region: JKNPP | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 13: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today alleged that the Omar Abdullah-led state government was biased towards Jammu and that even ministers based in the region were not raising their voice to end such regional discrimination. "We condemn hostile attitude of Omar Abdullah government and criminal silence of Jammu-based ministers to continued bias and discrimination towards Jammu province in all sectors," said JKNPP chairman and former minister Harshdev Singh here today. “Coalition government should mend their ways and ensure equitable treatment to all regions with an end to all instances of bias against Jammu region," he said. He said that Jammu-based ministers made "exaggerated announcements and pronouncements" during elections but have surrendered to the wishes and dictates of their Kashmiri masters". JKNPP MLA sought deployment of adequate National Youth Corps at the lakes of Mansar, Dalsar and Surinsar in Jammu region on the analogy of Dal Lake and Nagin Lake in Kashmir. He alleged that though the Omar government doled out financial assistance for lakes in Kashmir Valley, lakes in Jammu have been given a raw deal. While a financial package of Rs1,100 crore was sanctioned for Dal Lake, only Rs. 386 crore were provided for Wullar lake and Rs2,500 crore for the conservation and beautification project for Jhelum river, while the Mansar lake, Dalsar lake and Surinsar lake had been totally ignored despite repeated assurances of the government, Singh said. He also said that the River Tawi project in Jammu had been offered only pea-nuts as compared to the Rs2, 500 crore mega project for river Jhelum Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of JKNPP was held in Jammu under the Chairmanship of Prof. Bhim Singh who discussed the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir and measures to be adopted to restore peace and democracy in the state. Among the prominent Panthers Party leaders who attended the meeting included Harsh Dev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia and several District Presidents. Party has adopted several important resolutions today. Party in a resolution rejected the appointment of three interlocutors on Kashmir saying that interlocutors need basic knowledge on the geography, ethnicity and peoples’ aspirations of J&K. Singh described appointment interlocutors as providing job to the unemployed persons at the cost of exchequers. The working committee also condemned brutal police lathicharge on the students inside college premises who were agitating against nonpayment of scholarship and other dues due to the student’s community.
