Farmers urge Govt to fix paddy rates | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Oct 13: Farmers today staged protest against the government for not fixing the appropriate and justified rates of the paddy due to which they were being harassed and plundered by the private purchasers. Hundreds of farmers gathered in their farms in Kathua today and expressed their resentment against the government. Farmers which included Makhan Singh, Davinder Singh Andotra, Omkar Singh, Anoop Singh, Ajay Singh, Sohan Singh, Vijay Singh, Anchal Singh, Deep Singh, criticised the government for harassing the farmers since long and have no comprehensive policy on the agriculture to protect the farmers community. In a joint statement here today, they said that the farmers work hard to produce grains but the private people come to purchase it on very cheap rates which is nearly about Rs 800 to 900 and further fix their own rates to plunder both farmers and common man. They further said the all these things happen due to the lack of Govt’s proper attention and policy in favour of the farmers. They later urged the government to establish special farmers Mandi and fix the justified rates of paddy. They further alleged the leaders for their vote bank make lot of promises for farmer-friendly policies but on the ground no such promises are made. They, further, threatened the government of dire consequences in case they fail to come with constructive policy to uplift the farmers and immediately check the looting of the paddy by some private purchasers and fix the genuine and satisfactory rates within a week .
