| 24x7 PHCs fail to serve purpose | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: State Government has made certain plans to give better health facilities to the people of the state, but these plans are not implemented in letter and spirit in many parts of the state.
This is particularly true in case of many health institutions being raised under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) such as Primary Health Centre (PHC), Urban Health Centre (UHC), Community Health Centre (CHC), and Sub Centres. These were built up for improving health services in the state.
Further the health department of the state government has built many Primary Health Centres which are supposed to work round –the- clock, including holidays for the benefit of ailing masses.
In district Jammu there are about 11 such PHCs at different locations like Sungal, Mera Mandrian, Amia, Rehal, Kotbhalwal, Pargwal, Gho Manhasan, Chouki Choura, Dansal, Pallanwala, and Kana-Chak. Medical facilities in the health centres including doctors in these PHCs are required to available 24 hours.
But on the ground the reality is different. In some of the PHCs, the staff is not doing their duty properly while in other cases proper facilities are not available.
Primary Health Centre (PHC) Gho Manahasan is the typical example of gross negligence of the concern authorities and no accountability of staff posted in this PHC.
While talking here, locals alleged that there were about 6 staff members, including one doctor and para medical staff. But the staff used to stay here for only 4-5 hours and closed the PHC before 4 pm daily, not to talk of working on holidays.
Locals also alleged that medicines are not provided in the PHC. There were also allegations that the medicines meant for the PHC are sold in market.
When contacted Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Baldev Ram Sharma said he would initiate action against the erring doctors and staff members as soon as possible. And, action could be seen in the morning itself.
