Papa Farooq once again saves sinking Omar? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 13: National Conference President and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah has once again emerged as knight in shining armor for his son Omar Abdullah after later's controversial speech in the state legislative Assembly. Party sources said that soon after Omar Abdullah set the river Jhelum on fire by his highly critical speech questioning the finality of the state's accession with India Farooq Abdullah rushed to Srinagar in order to defuse the crisis. Sources in the National Conference said that Farooq had several sessions with his son Omar Abdullah and finding him(Omar) angry over the continued violence in Kashmir, he (Farooq) advised his son to keep his anger under check failing which the centre could think of some other arrangement. Reports said that while Farooq was not interested in taking over as Chief Minister, even the PDP leadership was showing reluctant in assuming power with the support of the Congress because of the difficult security and political scenario in Kashmir. Sources said Farooq spent several days advising his son to concentrate on development activities and avoid touching any issue concerning politics and security situation. It is out of this suggestion that during the last one week, Chief Minister is seen releasing funds on various projects. As President of the party, Farooq Abdullah had series of meetings with senior leaders of National Conference. He advised them also to restrain from indulging in any activity which could be prejudicial to peace and to the interest of the ruling coalition. Reports said that he National Conference leadership is keen to retain its alliance with congress since that is the only way to keep the PDP out of power. NC leadership believes that once the PDP succeeds in regaining power, it could harm National Conference because between 2002 and 2005, PDP leadership had done everything to weaken the National Conference. Reports said that Farooq has decided to spend more time in Srinagar and Jammu for guiding his son and the party. |
