| Freedom fighter Shaffi remembered on his 94th birth anniversary | | |

Jammu, October 14: Glowing tributes were paid to Comrade Choudhary Mohammad Shaffi, member of first Lok Sabha and a prominent freedom fighter on his 94th birth anniversary today in a function at Pradesh Congress headquarters here today.
The function was organised by 125th Year Congress Foundation Celebration Committee of the Pradesh Congress Committee under the chairmanship of S. Gurmukh Singh and attended by senior functionaries of the PCC and DCC Jammu.
The speakers while paying rich tributes recalled the services and contributions of Comrade Shaffi during the freedom struggle and post independence period.
Greatly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and non-violent freedom struggle, Comrade Shaffi joined the movement from his school days.
He was one of those who led the “Roti Agitation” in early 40’s in Jammu. He was symbol of secularism, patriotism & simplicity and dedicated his life for the nation and the party.
The speakers said that the principles for which Comrade Shaffi dedicated his entire life are more relevant today in view of the challenges posed by some vested interests and communal forces that are always for a lookout to raise their ugly heads and pursue their communal and divisive agenda.
S.R.Sudhir, member secretary of the Celebration Committee threw light on the entire life of Comrade Shaffi and his personal association with him.
Prominent Congress leaders paid tribute to Shaffi on the occasion.
