6 PoK guests arrive, 19 Kashmiris cross | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 14 : SIX guests from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) arrived here while 19 residents of this side crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar-Muzaffarabad. Official sources told here that six guests, including four women, arrived at Kaman Post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC in Uri sector after crossing the Aman Setu bridge on foot today. With this, a total of 478 PoK residents had arrived here today since January this year to meet their relatives since 1947 when thousands of families were separated due to partition. Sources said two residents of this side, who had crossed over to other side also returned to their homes today after completing their stay in PoK. However, 19 Kashmiris, including six women and three children also crossed over to the other side in the bus to meet their relatives in PoK. With this, a total of 167 Kashmiris had crossed to other side since January this year. This was the second highest number of Kashmiris who cross over to PoK this year. The highest was on July 1 when 20 Kashmiris went to PoK in the bus. They said 16 PoK residents, who had arrived here in previous buses also left for their homes which included three women and six children. The service was started on April 7, 2005 when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off the first bus in presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel on permit instead of passports. However, the permit is issued only when a person gets clearance from the intelligence agencies of both the countries.
