Political campaigning in Leh ends | | | Ramzan Khan. EARLY TIMES REPORT Leh, Oct 14: The political campaigning for the 4th general election for 26 members LAHDC Leh came to an end this evening. Today every political party and candidates with long motorcades displayed road show. The Leh is going to polls on October 16 and result will be declared on October 26. This year INC, BJP and PDP were in election fray. Apart from these political parties, many independent candidates are also trying their luck. The INC has filled their candidature on all the 26 seats, BJP have only on 24 seats while the PDP is contesting only on four seats. Out of thier 26 filled candidates the INC have already won two seats uncontested from Skurbuchan and Timusgham constituency. The INC leader Rigzin spalber former Chief executive councillor won uncontestd from Skurbuchan and Sonam Dorjay of INC won uncontested from Timusgham constituency. For the 26 members LAHDC election there are 239 polling station out of which 15 polling station are for Skurbuchan and Timusghan who declared their nomination uncontestedly. There are 24 returning officers and in total 71,654 voters. 'Lower Leh' constituency is having highest number of 8807 voters and 'Skumarkha' constituency is having least number of 589 voters, among all the 26 constituencies. The INC is fighting election on the issue of Peace, Prosperity and Development even the demand for Union Territory is also in their manifesto but the BJP is purely contesting election on the issue of Union Territory status for Ladakhis. Opinion poll for the forthcoming election shows that congress will get 12-13 seats while BJP will get 8-9 seats. Its shows that in coming election Independent candidates can play an important role.
