J&K lagging behind in education sector | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 14: While the country is moving upwards in the field of education, Jammu and Kashmir has been unable keep pace with it. Ironically, despite making concerted efforts to improve education system in Jammu and Kashmir, there are still 29, 000 children who do not have avenues for getting quality education. Take the case of implementation of District Information System for education (DISE) in Jammu and Kashmir which is in operation from last six years. Its purpose was to provide complete all the related educational indicators for quality education at the door steps of the common masses but the condition on the ground is extremely bad. It is important to mention here that the DISE software was devised by National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) in collaboration with Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) under the name of DISE 2001 for successful implementation of any educational programme. It was also meant for effective monitoring and efficient information system. It was supposed to cover all the government, private schools, Kendriya vidyalas and other central government schools for building a sound data base. Later, this was to be used for the purpose of educational planning. It is important to mention here that the DISE in J&K is under process from many decades but the education scenario is yet to show any change since there are many government schools in the rural and urban areas which are without requisite infrastructure, while some are even without teachers and besides many other Problems. As like past six years, this year also Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan has been celebrating DISE week or fort night in the month of October. It has already declared October as DISE month in Jammu and Kashmir as school data at elementary level is collected annually.
