Court bans entry of tractor-trolleys in JMC Limit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 15: In a petition filed by inhabitants of Village Paloura Jammu against operation of tractor/ trolleys in the city of Jammu and around, Special Additional Mobile Magistrate (traffic) Jammu Naushad A Khan has directed SSP Jammu that he shall pass an effective order directing all the Police Stations, Police Posts, Check Posts falling under his jurisdiction to completely ban the entry of Tractor Trolleys in the Jammu Municipal Limits and the owners/ drivers of the tractor-trolleys be booked under law, if they repeatedly violate the direction passed by the Division Bench of the State High Court on November 28, 2006 in a petition by All J&K Taxi Sumo Transport Union. While directing the SSP Jammu, Court observed that tractor-trolleys are used under farmer policy and meant only for agricultural use and not for the commercial use. The uses of the tractor trolleys in the city are causing obstruction in the free flow of traffic. It is further observed by the Court that under the MV Act the tractor-trolleys are exempted from the levy of token tax as such the same cannot be plied for use of commercial activities. Court further directed SP Traffic City Jammu and SSP Traffic Rural to issue strict instructions in all the DTIs, SOs, ATIs and Traffic officials to ban the operation of Tractor Trolleys with the Jammu Municipal Limits and around. To this effect SSP Jammu, SP Traffic City and SSP Traffic Rural Jammu shall file their compliance reports to this Court on or before October 25, 2010. JNF
