| On betrothal night, brother kills groom by injecting poison | | |
Srinagar, October 30 On betrothal night, brother of a bridegroom injected poison in his body and killed him at Shopian in South Kashmir. Police registered a case of murder and launched a manhunt to nab brother and mother of the victim. Details available indicate that a 22 year old youth Arif Hussain Shah S/O late Bashir Ahmed R/O Malik Mohalla Shopian was all set to tie a nuptial knot with the daughter of Ab Rashid Khanday R/O Pinjoora Shopian on Ist August, 2006, but Khalid Hussain Shah, an employee of PDD department, the brother of the bridegroom and his mother were not happy with the decision. On betrothal night, when the ceremony was in full swing, Khalid Hussain had a heated exchange of words with his brother Arif Hussain Shah following which the later jumped from the window of the second floor of the house at around 9.00 P.M late in the evening and fell flat unconscious on the ground. However he recovered soon. The brother of the bridegroom Khalid Hussain brought a glucose bottle and an injection and tried to inject the same into the body of Arif Hussain. The friends of Arif Hussain tried to shift him to nearby hospital, but his elder brother did not allow them to do so and injected glucose and injection into his body himself. Barely five minutes had elapsed, when Arif Hussain vomited and blood with pieces of flesh started coming out from his mouth. As the condition of Arif Hussain turned critical, his friends shifted him to nearby Shopian hospital immediately , but he was referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar. However he died while in the way and his brother buried him in haste on August 2, but Shopian police was informed on August 8 that Arif died after glucose and poison was injected in his body. Police recorded statements of some witnesses under 174 RPC and a communication was sent to Sub Divisional Magistrate Shopian in this connection the same day where in his permission for conducting postmortem of the body of slain youth was sought. The Sub Divisional Magistrate granted permission for exhuming the body for the purposes of conducting postmortem following which a team of doctors bsides Tehsildar Shopian and SHO Shafiq Ahmed was constituted. The team sent 15 samples for tests to Forensic Laboratory under no: Est/PM/748. The reports received from Forensic Laboratory on October 13 which indicates that samples contain poisonous substance named "Phosphamidon" traced in heart, stomach and intestines. It has been also revealed in the report the drugs named 'Organic phosphorous insecticides' have been injected into the body. Police raide the house of Arif Hussain, but his mother and brother were found absconding. The police has launch a manhunt to nab both the mother and brother of Arif Hussain who continue to be absconding.
