2 Dy Directors among 4 officers removed from posts in scam | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 15: The Jammu and Kashmir government has removed four government employees, including two Deputy Directors from their posts, after their arrest in connection with a ration scam in Kishtwar district. The Secretary, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department, Pradeep Kumar Gupta has ordered their attachment with the Director, CAPD Kashmir wing, officials said on Friday. On October 11, Crime Branch sleuths had arrested four CAPD department officials, including Deputy Director (South Kashmir), Khurshid Ahmed Sanaye, the then Assistant Director and presently Deputy Director (North Kashmir), Riyaz Ahmad Wani, and two incharge supervisors of one of the godowns from which food grains worth over Rs 31 lakh were allegedly misappropriated. The Crime Branch also conducted raids on the premises of four CAPD department officials in Rawalpura (Srinagar), Shal Road (Anantnag) and Sidhra in Jammu. The arrested quartet is undergoing custodial interrogation and their remand has been extended to five days. The scam came into light when a special team was constituted on April 2, 2009 to probe the alleged misappropriation of food grains for distribution among the people of twin blocks of Warwan and Marwah in Kishtwar district. The committee, in its preliminary investigation, established the allegations and the government on June 19, 2009 recommended the case for detailed investigation to the Crime Branch. The Crime Branch department found that CAPD department officials misappropriated food grains of Vailoo and Inshan Godowns to the tune of Rs 31,52,660. A case of bungling was established and the accused were arrested.
