Appointment of interlocutors reflects center’s seriousness: Vakil
10/16/2010 12:11:17 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 15: Central government’s appointment of interlocutors for taking forward peace process in Jammu and Kashmir speaks in volumes about genuineness, sincerity and concern of Congress-led UPA government towards addressing aspirations of people of all the three regions including Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh.
This was stated by Congress leader and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil in a statement issued here today. He added that those who are criticizing this move of union government including the separatists and leaders of a particular mainstream political party are seemingly unmoved by recent spate of killings.
“Time has come for them to understand their duty towards people of Jammu and Kashmir especially those who have lost their kith and kin,” said Vakil. He underlined need for engaging New Delhi’s interlocutors for Jammu and Kashmir into a fruitful dialogue which could later pave way for rebuilding and cementing faith of people in the democratic set-up.
“We have to talk. None should miss the bus since the three intellectuals who constitute panel of interlocutors are members of civil society and hence, more suitable to hold talks and parleys even with those who have repeatedly refused to share table with mainstream political forces,” added Vakil.
Vakil expressed deep regret over the manner in which a particular political party reacted towards the appointment of interlocutors.
“When all party delegation visited valley, they refused to meet them saying that they do not want to talk to them. Now that an independent panel has been constituted, all those who want to see return of peace and prosperity to the state should shun abhorrence and talk,” added Vakil.
