No dearth of talent in Kashmir: Governor

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 29
Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today complimented youth for taking keen interest in art and culture and said that Kashmir has no dearth of talent but the only need is to identify and polish it for grand exposure on larger canvass.
Speaking at a function held at Tagore Hall here this morning, the Governor described art as a creativity, saying the more one concentrates the more perfection comes in the talent. He expressed happiness that the youth was coming forward in a big way and participating in extra curricular activities like art, music, sculpting and culture. He hoped they will get better direction and exposure to show their talent to the world.
General Sinha referred to the painting of a young painter that had impressed the President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam the most during his last visit to the State. This is the acknowledgement of the art of local talent, he added.
In his welcome address, the Secretary Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Rafiq Masoodi gave a resume of activities undertaken by Cultural Academy in twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu besides rural areas for promoting art and culture. He said several programmes were held in peripheral areas and local participation ensured in order to provide the hidden talent appropriate platform to grow.
He said that a troupe from the State recently performed in Turkumistan, a Central Asian Republic on its Independence Day, and mesmerized the audience. The Chief of the Ministry of Culture expressed his deep gratitude and had appreciation for the artists for displaying the varied cultures of the three regions of Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir.
Earlier, the Governor presented cash awards, citations and certificates to budding painters for achieving distinction in the just held competition. The first prize of Rs 10,000 and a certificate of merit was given to Muzamil Buch, second prize of Rs 7000 to Mohammed Ashraf and the third prize of Rs 5000 to Ms Insha Manzoor. Several other consolation prizes were given to the young painters.
A cultural programme was the highlight of the function. Impressed by the melodies of Zulekhan Noorjehan from Doda, the Governor announced an award of Rs 10000 as encouragement to the artist.
Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, Mr Zaffer Iqbal presented vote of thanks. Director Radio Kashmir, Choudhry G H Zia was also present on the occasion.
The function was held in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited.
