Early Times Report
KATRA, Oct 15: Up in arms against R&B department, inhabitants of Nohati have threatened to block the Rajouri road at Sunderbani if the work on Tawi bridge in the area was not started within a week. They said two pillars were raised on each side of the river bed about 10 months back under the supervision of the then executive engineer, but the work was abandoned later due to "unknown" reasons.
In the absence of the bridge, residents of Nohati and 10 more villages are cut off from the main towns during rainy days. When the river is swollen, they are required to travel extra eight kilometres via Upper Hathal to reach Sunderbani.
In a meeting held at government middle school, Nohati, people also expressed their anguish over the alleged non-availability of MLA R S Sharma. They alleged that whenever they had tried to meet the MLA, he was not available to them.
"If the work on the bridge is not started within a week, we will be forced to block the Rajouri-Jammu road at Sunderbani in support of our demand," they asserted.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ex-sarpanch Mohan Lal Sharma, vice-sarpanch Shiv Nath, numberdar Mansa Ram, Amarnath Sharma, Om Prakash, Durga Dass and Hem Raj.Meanwhile, BJP leader Vishvinder Dev Sharma has supported the cause of the Nohati residents and called upon the authorities concerned to
immediately resume work on the bridge.
People were faced with lot of problems in the absence of the bridge, he added.
Vishvinder also emphasised the need for early construction of the Makole Mandir-Nohati road, saying its condition was very bad.
