| Governor lauds voluntary effort in spreading professional education | | | SRINAGAR OCTOBER 30 Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today lauded the voluntary efforts in spreading higher and technical education in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that this will place youth in good stead to face the competitive world. Speaking at a felicitation function organized by private B Ed Colleges of Kashmir, the Governor noted with appreciation the growth of such colleges which have emerged as the main destination of students from various parts of the country in recent years. ‘This will help in strengthening national integration’, he added. He said that B Ed colleges are teaching teachers who in turn have the responsibility to teach the future of the Nation. ‘It is a most challenging and sacred task’, he said hoping that teachers would should this national duty with a sense of devotion and dedication. In India, teachers have always been revered and accorded high place in the society, he said, adding that some distinguished teachers like Dr Radha Krishana and, Dr Zakir Hussain made the country proud by being Presidents. The Governor also appreciated the measures being taken by University of Kashmir in motivating students to be the volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society, Kashmir Chapter and hoped that they will help in carrying forward the noble cause of serving the people in need. He said that Red Cross should not restrict its activities to providing assistance to the people during natural calamities only but it should expand its ambit to cover the victims of militancy. The Governor, who is also the President of State Red Cross and Chancellor of Kashmir University, expressed happiness over the close coordination between the two in discharging their social responsibility and rendering humanitarian service. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof Abdul Wahid said that one additional seat has been provided to all the 61 B Ed colleges in the Valley, revenue of which goes to Red Cross and Kashmir University Allumni Association. The Association, he said, has undertaken several projects to help physically challenged children and extending standard educational facilities to hitherto uncovered areas. Prof Wahid said that a branch of Red Cross has recently been established in the University Campus to inspire students to imbibe the lofty ideals and serve mankind. He said students are taking keen interest in becoming its volunteers. Honorary General Secretary, Mr G J Nehvi and noted academician Prof Agha Asharaf Ali also addressed the function. Later, the Governor honoured dignitaries by presenting mementos and shawls to them who included, Vice Chancellor, Registrar and various Deans of the University, Secretary Red Cross, Secretary Education, Chairman Board of School Education, Director Education and many others. The Governor also presented cheques to Red Cross and Kashmir University Alumni Association on behalf of the B Ed Colleges Association. |
