Peons operating classes, Director assures action in High school
Mendher School sans teachers

Rajouri, Oct 15: Notwithstanding the fact that state government is claiming to achieve 100 percent literacy rate by 2012, a High School in Poonch district with 450 enrolled students sans 10 teachers where the students are receiving education from peons of the school.
Government High School Keri Kangra is ill-fated where only 7 teachers are dealing with 450 enrolled students. The school is having shortage of 10 teachers which has put question mark on the future of the students. Although parents desire to get their wards discharged from the school they are having no other option because the next school is situated at 6 kilometer area on foot. "The future of our wards is bleak as we have acute shortage of teachers in the school", a parent Mohammad Din said adding that although he desire to get his son admitted in another school, he cannot do so. "We have another school at 6 kilometer distance and is impossible to get my son admitted in that school because it is on foot journey of 6 kilometers and we cannot take risk of the lives of our wards".
The school kids said that although the posted teachers are particular to finish the syllabus, they are facing acute hardships due to shortage of teachers. "One teacher cannot teach more than 4 classes but here one teacher is teaching more than 8 classes and in case he is on leave, students' loss 8 classes a day", a student said requesting not to disclose his name.
The students said that in the era of competitions, they are not being prepared in such a way to compete with the rest of the students of state which demoralize them. "We are discouraged that we are lagging behind from the rest of the students of state because we have not been provided basic educational infrastructure and adequate staff", a student of 10th class said.
Sources said that with school facing shortage of teachers, two peons are taking the class. Although these peon are dealing the students of lower classes, students said that it is injustice with them and the peons of the school.
When contacted, Headmaster Anayat Khan admitted that his school is facing acute shortage of teachers and masters. He said that although they are managing the classes, they could not satisfy students due to hectic extra classes. Headmaster said that he has written to Chief Education Officer regarding the same several times but still they are lacking staff in the school.
Director school Education Zahida Khan when contacted said that she will investigate into the matter why the teachers were not given to this school. She said that she will personally call CEO Poonch to look into the mater and sort out the problem of the students of this school.
