CSSS celebrates silver jubilee
Mangat asks doctors to serve in far-flung areas of the state

JAMMU, OCTOBER 30
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma inaugurated new block of hospital of Catholic Social Service Society (CSSS) at a function organized in connection with its silver jubilee here today. The function also marked a mega health mela.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister congratulated the society for its successful completion of 25 years service in the field of community development in the state. He appreciated the splendid task done by it especially in natural calamities like earthquake in rehabilitation programme.
Mr. Sharma also dwelt on the contribution of CSSS in promotion of quality education and providing health care facilities to the people especially in far-flung areas across the state thereby supplementing government efforts in this behalf.
The Minister appealed the doctors to opt for rendering their services in far-flung and backward areas of the state where these are required the most as being done by CSSS teams. He quoted the instances of Rt. Rev. Peter Celestine, OFM. Cap, President of CSSS and Fr. Alphonse, Director of CSSS who belong to Kerala and Andhra Pradesh but are serving the needy in this state.
He appreciated the budding artists for their excellent performance in communicating the message of prevention and eradication of HIV/AIDS and TB. Skits, symposium and quiz were other highlights of the function that helped in generating greater awareness about prevention of these dreaded diseases.
The Minister also gave away cash prizes to the students who took part in skits, symposium and quiz contests.
Minister of State for School Education S. Manjit Singh also appreciated the services being rendered by CSSS with a missionary zeal and their role in imparting quality education.
Rt. Rev. Peter Celestine apprised that they are training the local people in various trades in Delhi, Hyderabad and other parts of the country in order to develop confidence among them for rendering their services among the masses at grass roots level. He said that so far they have covered more than 175 villages in the state.
Thirty persons donated blood in the health mela and a free Eye and ENT check-up camp was also organized on the occasion in which 400 patients were examined.
Among others MLA Bishnah Mr. Ashwani Sharma, ex-MLAs Mr. Baldev Sharma and Mr. Shivdev Singh, Joint Director Information Jammu Mr. S. K. Sharma, Deputy Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Kailash Kohli, retired SSP S. Surinder Singh, Deputy CMO and a large number of people participated in the function.
