JAMMU Oct, 16: With festive season of crackers approaching near, the wholesalers and retailers dealing with crackers in winter capital of the state have started dumping crackers without caring for the instructions from the district administrations.
With upcoming Dusherra, Dewali, New Year and marriage season; there is a huge demand of crackers all around the state and traders are busy in selling crackers in underground manner in many areas. Illegal dumping of huge stock of crackers in the densely populated residential areas has put the lives of people under threat as well.
As per sources, there is mushrooming of illegal hoardings of crackers in many areas of the state, particularly in Bishnah and Lakhanpur areas, which is a matter of serious concern. Police had unearthed such dumps of crackers in huge amount in the recent days but still there are several more which were yet to be checked.
District Commissioner Jammu Manoj Dwivedi stated that they are going to have a meeting with officials to decide about the location of cracker stalls and about permission to traders. He further stated that they were going to take appropriate measures to prevent any tragedy due to illegal dumping of the crackers. Whereas, JMC Joint Commissioner Babu Ram stated that two locations have been decided. He added that these include JDA ground opposite hotel Fortune and Dusherra ground.
