Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 16: State Government is giving step motherly treatment to pensioners who have served the state government in various capacities in the prime of their life.
These pensioners are living at the mercy of God as the state government is not considering many if its demands. At present, there are more than 10 Lakh pensioners in the state, who have served state government on different posts in different departments. J&K Pensioners Association (JKPA) Jammu having membership of about 33, 000 is
constantly spearheading the campaign for getting their demands fulfilled. But concerned quarters are least interested in fulfilling the demands.
General Secretary of the association Madan Lal Abrol, said “What is worse, is that we were provided nothing in the much talked about sixth pay commission. There are many grievances of this poor lot which are required to be addressed immediately so that they do not felt discriminated and neglected at the hands of state government.”
He also said that they are given paltry sum of Rs 300 as Medical Allowance but they are not being provided medical insurance. It used to be disbursed two years earlier, but ceased to be disbursed after that for reasons known to the concerned authorities.
About the pay anomalies in their rank and file, he also said that the sixth pay commission was devised to benefit only those retired from the government services after January 1, 2006. Even arrears of the sixth pay commission have not been paid yet to the pensioners.
Association also said that the government should provide them concession in Airlines and public transport on the pattern of Indian Railways besides providing 50 percent traveling concession to the senior citizens in Jammu and Srinagar. Younger generation these days
are money minded and least concerned about their ailing parents in most of the cases.
Many of these senior citizens are forced to live in old age homes at their last stage of life. The state government should provide accommodation facilities to those senior citizens.
