| Revision of electoral rolls announced | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 16: With the Panchayat polls in the state due this December; Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Jammu and Kashmir today announced schedule for summary revision of the electoral rolls for 2010.
As per a notification issued by Chief Electoral Officer B R Sharma, the draft rolls will be published on October 18 while claims and objections can be filed from October 19 to November 1. An official spokesman said disposal of claims and objections will be made from November 2-8 and preparation of supplements for additions, deletions and corrections from November 9-16.
According to rules, a person will be disqualified from registration in the electoral rolls if he is not a permanent resident of the state, is of unsound mind and stands so declared by a competent authority and has not attained the age of 18 years. Summary of revision of Panchayat electoral rolls will be undertaken with reference to January 1, 2010 as the qualifying date.
