Jwalaji temple at Khrew facing land grabbers' threat | Mafia enjoying political patronage ? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU,Oct 16: With authorities sleeping over the issue, the ancient shrine of Jwala Ji at Khrew in Pampore tehsil of Pulwama district is facing the land grabbers' threat. Till date two attempts of land encroachment on this holy shrine have been stopped by the timely intervention of Hindus putting up in valley. But the land mafia, enjoying the patronage of some influential politicians and administration, during past two-three days are again attempting to encroach the hundreds kanals of the land belonging to this shrine. According to sources one so called Hindu body claiming to manage Hindu Shrine in Kashmir is allegedly hand in glove with the land mafia and the deal has been settled in crores of rupees. The sources said earlier two attempts of encroaching the land of the shrine were thwarted by the local Hindus with the help of Auqaf committee, Khrew. But with the politicians and administration allegedly fully backing these land grabbers, the local Hindus are desperately fighting to save the land belonging to this ancient shrine. According to Maharaj Krishen Raina, President Jwala Ji Samiti Khrew, the shrine has 300 kanals of agriculture land as its property, besides its own hundreds kanals of non-agricultural land also. He said the land was well maintained by the Samiti till the mass migration of Pandits from Kashmir valley in 1989-90. but later the land grabbers and mafia groups were eying on this precious land situated beneath a hill lock on right side of Khrew-Srinagar road. Raina said" besides the encroachment of the land of this world famous Hindu Shrine, the cremation ground and a children's graveyard belonging to the community is also being encroached. This attempt has generated a lot of resentment among the Hindus of Kashmir in particular and that of J&K state in general" he added. Raina said" the main reason for encroaching the land of Hindu shrine and temples in the Valley was the failure of Government to enact a law for the protection of Hindu-Shrines and Temples in Valley. Had the government taken an initiative in this regard, the property worth hundreds of crores belonging to Hindu Shrines and Temples in Kashmir could have been saved, source said. Sources while questioning the Government's claim on returning of Hindu minorities to Valley said, how will be this possible when the government itself watch a mute spectator to grabbing of Hindu Shrines land in Kashmir Valley. It may be recalled that Jwala Ji Khrew is among the ancient Shrines of Kashmir Hindus and Goddess is the presiding Deity of half of Kashmir Hindus. On the day Ashrad Chaturdashi a religious congregation was held every year at this ancient Shrine in which thousands of Hindus from length and breadth of valley used to participate.
