JAMMU, OCTOBER 30
Acting on the complaint of tourists, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department conducted raids at the establishment of different fruit sellers at Shiv Market and Railway Station where the tourists are being cheated. The team on the spot checked the actual weighment of apple boxes being sold to three tourists which were found to be less than 6 to 8 kg against 20 kg weight. The manipulations were made in weighing scales. Both the shopkeepers were booked under Weights and Measures Act 1997 under section 39 (2) and a fine of Rs.8000 was imposed on both the defaulters for less weighment and other traders were cautioned to be careful and do not indulge in such malpractices otherwise they have to face stringent legal action where the Act.
