Seminar on accession of J&K with India organised
10/18/2010 12:15:16 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 17: Panun Kashmir (PK) on Sunday organized seminar to discuss Accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India on the topic ‘Undermining the Accession’.
The seminar was the part of the campaign of educating the people of Jammu about the legal and historical facts related to the entire process of accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India.
The two main presentations on the topic were made by M K Teng and Hari Om, two of the experts in the state on the constitutional and political history of Inmmu and Kashmir.
M K Teng while making the key note address on the occasion said, ‘Distortion of the history of the partition of India, false propaganda and lies, shroud the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India in 1947, as well as the exclusion of the State from the Indian Constitutional organization by virtue of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution in 1950’. He stated, ‘The Instrument of Accession was executed by the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir State on the terms specified by the Dominion of India. Neither the ruler of the State, Maharaja Hari Singh, nor the National Conference leaders played any role in the determination of the terms; the Instrument of Accession was underlined and thus irreversible and irreducible’.
Hari Om said, “Indian leadership has been woefully ignorant about the constitutional and political history of Jammu and Kashmir. The recent statement of the Foreign Minister of India virtually endorsed the speech of the Omar Abdullah on the floor of the Legislative Assembly.
“Mysore formed the part of the smaller princely states which joined together or with the provinces in which they were placed and as such had to sign the Instrument of Attachment which some also call as Instrument of Merger”, he mentioned, adding, “The bigger princely states like Jammu and Kashmir had to accede by signing the Instrument of Accession”.
Omkar Nath Trisal, the freedom fighter and political veteran from Kashmir who has been a personal witness to the developments in Kashmir at the time of partition in his assessment said that at that time people of the state accepted accession unconditionally and fought the aggression of Pakistan.
Ajay Chrungoo in his presidential address, ‘We are now witnessing a brazen game of not just opening the issue of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir but the wider issue of the indivisible unit of the nation of India’.
He said, ‘Defending accession has now become a sacrosanct responsibility of all Indians because the undermining of it is essentially regressive in content because it furthers the cause of various imperialisms active in Jammu and Kashmir’,
Kuldeep Raina, general secretary of Panun Kashmir, Shailendra Aima, vice chairman of Panun Kashmir and others members of PK and civil society were also present on the occasion.
