| State Badminton tourney gets underway | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, October 18: Dipakshi defeated Razia in straight sets to move into the next round of sub-junior girls’ singles event on the opening day of the 37th State Badminton Championship started Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Sparing little chance for Razia to secure even a single point in the first set (21-00), Dipakshi committed unforced errors to finally take away the set 21-14.
“It will be out this meet that state teams in different age categories for the forthcoming North Zone Championship will be selected,” general secretary of the Association, Dr OD Sharma told .
Earlier, Minister for Sports, R S Chib, who reached the venue an hour behind the schedule time, declared open the four-day long championship. A host of Association office bearers and officials of the State Sports Council were among those present in the opening.
