| National Conference all set to make Assembly session stormy | | | Srinagar: Opposition National Conference today said it will grill the government on several issues, including the sex-abuse racket, "deteriorating" security situation and corruption, in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly even as it decried limiting of the session to six days.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig had promised a month-long session in Srinagar but the calendar issued has only six working days, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather told reporters here.
He said the session, slated to be addressed by President APJ Abdul Kalam, has been "deliberately" curtailed as the government felt it would be "exposed" on many fronts.
"However, we will try our best to raise all the issues concerning the people of the state." The sex scandal will be among the top of our agenda in the assembly, Rather said when asked whether the case did not merit inclusion in the party's agenda.
On the security situation, he said nobody was feeling safe in the state in the wake of increased militant attacks and human rights violations.
"How many incidents should I mention? The serial blasts, the Kulgam massacre of Nepali labourers, the attacks at Gulmarg, Magam, Sopore ... The incidents should have been an eye-opener for the government which seems to be in "deep slumber", he said adding the government has "failed miserably" on the security front.
Asked if they would boycott the session if not allowed to raise their issues, Rather said "we have to play our role as a responsible party and representatives of the people". |
