Speaking after giving away insurance claim cheques to those whose ponies/horses were involved in accidental deaths during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra this year, at a function held at Raj Bhavan, the Governor said that it was due to the collective effort of every one that culminated in the smooth and peaceful conduct of the pilgrimage. He added that many new initiatives were taken by the Board this year to bring progressive improvements in the Yatra management and upgrading facilities for the visiting pilgrims, besides extending economic benefits to the local population and other stakeholders. Later, the Governor gave away cheques of Rs. 20,000 each to over 30 pony-wallahs, as compensation for the loss they had suffered due to accidental death of their ponies/horses during Shri Amarnath Yatra this year. The Governor, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, asked Principal Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Board, to take all the required measures with a view to increasing the amount of compensation for the losses that the pony/horse owners may suffer due to the accidental deaths of their animals in the course of future Yatras.
