Early Times Report
SAMBA, Oct 18: Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) today held one-day token protest against half-hearted, slip-shod implementation of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGREGA) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest was held outside Deputy Commissioner’s office at Samba. While leading the protest at Samba, Senior Vice-President of Youth Congress R.S.Pathania dwelled in detail upon the various facets of MGNREGA, its poor operationalisation in J & K and the hardships faced by rural people.
He added that compulsory statutory provisions of 100 days of job to card-holders, poor response to the card-holders' job demands, payment of unemployment allowance and full wages to card-holders denied work, payment within fifteen days, etc have more or less become hollow slogans. He lamented that the job-guarantee scheme has failed to achieve desired results in a state where unemployed youth have taken to guns and stones.
Hundreds of card holders had come over there and narrated the practical hardships faced by them. Programme culminated after presenting a memorandum to D.D.C. Samba Mubarak Singh. Programme was coordinated by Ajay Taloor, Shashi Bhushan and Rajan Sharma. Also PCC General Secretary, Vinod Mishra, PCC Secretary Arun Sharma, nd Chairman JCCB Mohinder Singh addressed Youth Congress workers expressing fullest solidarity with Youth Congress cadres in this noble job.
And the card holders and the present public was further addressed by Pankaj Chibber, Manjit Singh Jatt, former General secretaries, PYC, Sonu Dogra, former President DYC Jammu, Vikram Bhandari, Rajvir Manhas, President, Jammu University, Amit Manhas, Ajay Jamwal, Mandeep Singh, G/Secy.
