Farmers protest against govt apathy | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Oct 18: Farmers today held a protest demonstration in Kathua secretariat under the banner of Kissan Movement. The farmers were led by leaders namely Hurmat Singh, Ashok Khajuria, Sanjeev Verma, Jai Singh and Gayatri Singh. They later met ADDC Kathua M.S Sheikh. Leader of the movement Hurmat Singh accused the government of not taking serious initiative to procure farmer’s produce. He said that the government has failed to protect the farmers produce due to which farmers have no other alternative but are forced to approach the private players who pay them extremely meager amounts. Ashok Khajuria along with other farmers Gayatri Singh, Jai Singh, said that one month before the Kissan movement was assured by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kathua that their problems like rate fixation and procurement of the paddy crops, Kissan Pass book, protection of agriculture land from the floods, availability of the seeds and timely fertilizers would all be addressed. They further appreciated role of newly engaged agriculture technocrats. After that, Kissan movement met ADDC Kathua M.S Sheikh and immediately directed concerned officers to take these problems seriously for their solution. Kissan movement warned government and administration of district Kathua to solve genuine problems of the arrangement of the government procurement of the farmers produce.
