Cong should strengthen coalition: Vakil | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 18: Jammu and Kashmir is passing through crucial phase of history where it is mandatory for every political voice to speak sense and participate effectively in quelling violence and building peace. This was stated by senior congress leader and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil in a statement issued here today. “We should desist from using politically damaging language which could have far-reaching consequences for both the coalition partners. Our motive should be strengthening the coalition government and taking the state towards heights of progress and development,” added Vakil. He reiterated that those who speak against the decision of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi are actually questioning the wisdom and prudence of these two leaders. “We have to not only carry forward the coalition government but also strengthen it in whatever way we can. If we speak pernicious language at this juncture, elements inimical to peace are likely to take advantage and further worsen the situation,” added Vakil. He said that situation across Kashmir valley demands unity and cohesiveness of mainstream political parties which is not possible until we all speak in one language. “Both National Conference (NC) and Congress leaders should refrain from mudslinging in the open. In a democracy, differences are natural but discipline is mandatory for bridging the divide and burying dissimilarities,” added Vakil. He maintained that Congress leadership especially Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have so far shown extreme faith and trust in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. “Come what may, it is the duty of every congressman to strengthen coalition government. We have to firmly carry forward this relationship which has been duly vetted by Congress high command,” stressed Vakil. Vakil once again reiterated his appeal to the separatist leaders to participate in the dialogue process initiated by the union government. “They should leave their rigid stands for the sake of people of Jammu and Kashmir who have suffered immensely during the last three months. Dialogue is only way out and if pursued with sincerity and dedication, nothing is impossible,” added Vakil.
