Total sanitation campaign reviewed at Samba

SAMBA, Oct 18: District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh chaired a meeting convened to review Total Sanitation Campaign, here today.
Representatives of various organizations like Zila Sainik Welfare Board, People’s Forum for Human Values and Kristu Jyoti were present in the meeting.
The DDC laid stress on wide publicity, sustainable and good efforts so that the Scheme gets implemented on the ground.
The DDC highlighted that the majority of people in the rural areas, especially the people falling in BPL category don’t have the facility of toilets which led to unhygienic conditions. He also pointed out that sanitation and toilet facilities are also directly linked with dignified living and same needs to be addressed as a social issue.
He exhorted upon the Rural Development Department not only to achieve the target of establishing 3645 toilet units in the District but also take care of the fact that these are properly utilized by the beneficiaries.
It was disclosed in the meeting that BPL individual will be given monetary assistance of Rs.2700 to build toilets and the beneficiary will have to contribute only Rs.300 in kind or cash.
During this financial year there is a target of establishing 800 toilet units in Purmandal Block, 1011 in Vijaypur, 1200 in Samba and 634 in Ghagwal Blocks. There is also provision of 22 Toilet units for schools, 4 for Anganwari Centres and 5 Sanitary complexes for Women at Places like Chichi Devi Temple, Narsingh Dev Ji Temple Ghagwal, Purmandal.
The DDC also directed the Rural Development Department to come out with a cost effective type design for toilets so that APL people could also benefit and be motivated.
Later, the DDC took a review meeting on the prevailing status of Social Security Scheme for Marginal Workers, including the categories like Agricultural and non agricultural Workers, Hanjis and Shikarawalas, Artisans, Potters, Rehri Walas, Shepherds, Washer men etc. engaged in petty enterprises on their own.
It was disclosed in the meeting that under this scheme beneficiary contributes Rs. 200 per quarter whereas the government contributes Rs. 100 per month to the account. There is also accident cover linked to this particular scheme on nominal contributions by the beneficiaries.
Those present on the occasion were ADDC Anil Gupta, CPO Sant Ram, ACD Ashok Kumar, CMO P S Slathia, CAO, CEO, GMDIC, DSWO, BDOs of District Samba and other concerned officers.
