Open Raghunath temple gates: Mankotia
10/18/2010 11:01:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 18: Demanding reopening of historic Raghunath Temple’s gates, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party state president and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia has asked the state government and J&K Dharmarth Trust to resolve the issue raised by various associations and people of Jammu from time to time.
Mankotia also demanded vacation of Tara Dharamshala from the occupation of security forces and reopen the park inside temple complex for common public.
He warned the government of serious consequences if the matter was not resolved before November 5 and threatened of agitation if the government did not pay any heed to the genuine demands and aspirations of people of Jammu and the devotees coming from all over the country to pay obeisance at the historic temple.
Addressing media persons here today, Mankotia said that the government which has declared Raghunath Temple and market as a heritage site and sanctioned an amount of more than Rs. 1 crore for its development has failed to take note of the problem being faced by the devotees and common people alike as the temple complex has been turned into a police station, houses barracks and turned into a business.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Anil Gupta, President, Raghunath Bazar Association demanded that the gates of Raghunath Mandir which were closed about eight years back due to security reasons should be reopened for local public and religions pilgrims coming from different states of the country. He further highlighted that a free of cost Dharamshalla was constructed inside the premises of Mandir by Maharaja for the stay of pilgrims who come from different parts of the country but presently their Dharmshalla is being used as the accommodation for police personel and CRPF jawans which is highly objectionable.
Earlier, a meeting with all the heads of the association was held and highlighted various problems being faced by them due to non co-operation of state government.
