| Sealing: Differences in Cong come to fore in CLP meet | | |
New Delhi, Oct 30 Sharp differences between Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's supporters and DPCC president Rambabu Sharma's camp emerged during a legislature party meet here today, with the latter accusing her of not doing enough to help traders affected by the MCD sealing drive.
Heated arguments were witnessed at the meeting, held prior to the ten-day winter session of Delhi Assembly, during which dissident MLAs charged Dikshit with not addressing the problems of shopkeepers in a "serious" manner.
Claiming that Dikshit was passing the buck to the Union Urban Development Ministry, her detractors said she was not taking the "burning issue" seriously. "The government should have moved the court directly rather than shifting responsibility to the Centre," a dissident leader said.
"We are sorting out the matter (of sealing) and will ensure that the traders get relief," Dikshit told reporters after the meeting.
She also accused the opposition BJP of taking political mileage out of the issue and misguiding the traders, which her government was trying to solve amicably.
The CLP unanimously passed a resolution assuring the traders that steps would be taken to ensure "uniform relief" to all traders affected by the drive.
Condemning the BJP for "playing politics" in the matter, the resolution demanded that the Centre should file a review petition in the Supreme Court at the earliest seeking relief for the over 44,000 traders who face sealing action from November one and implementation of the new Master Plan by January 31, 2007 |
