Escaping accused falls from hillock, dies | Case registered against cop for negligence | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Doda, Oct 18: An accused, who was making a bid to escape from police custody, slipped from the hillock and died at Assar area. Following the incident people of the area lodged protest demonstration against the police which were pacified only when a FIR was registered against the negligent cop. Earlier various bids were made by the senior police officers who assured protestors that the cop whose negligence led to the accused person’s death would be booked but protesters calmed down only after the arrest of the cop identified as Khalid Hussain posted at Assar police station. A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said that it was responsibility of the cop to hand cuff the accused before he was taken any where. The episode took place during late hours of today when Assar police received information that two persons Parshottam Singh of Tringla, Batote and Rajinder alias Pappu of Assar had entered into a scuffle in a dhaba. The police was informed by Pappu that Parshotam has thrashed him. After receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and took Parshottam under custody. In the meantime, Parshottam with an ill intention asked the cop to let him free to attend nature’s call but when police constable Khalid heeded to his request, the former tried to flee the spot. Seeing that the accused is running away, the cop started to chase him but Parshottam reportedly slipped and fell from hillock which led to his on the spot death. When police party approached near him, he was laying in a pool of blood. The body of the deceased was taken to the sub district hospital for postmortem.
