| Rare sports-cum-cultural extravaganza at Dudu Basantgarh | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Oct 19: Two days sports-cum-cultural extravaganza was held at Gandhtop area of Dudu Basantgarh Sub-Division in which nine teams of volleyball, four teams of Kabaddi and three teams of Cultural Items participated.
This meet was organized in the Sub Division by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Udhampur represented by Prithvi Raj, Volunteer NYK (Shivalik Youth Club Chatriari) under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Sub Divisional Magistrate Dudu Basantgarh Shri Amit Sharma.
Apart from holding several rounds of cultural events and other colourful activities by students belonging to various belts of this far flung Sub-Division for two days, three major outdoor sport-cum cultural events prevalent in rural belts were selected for competitions, which include Volleyball, Kabaddi and Cultural Items in which finals were held today in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Sharma, who graced the occasion as chief guest, after tough rounds of preliminary matches in these disciplines on the previous day.
As explained by SDM Dudu Basantgarh Amit Sharma, the main motto behind organizing such sports-cum cultural meets in such remote corners of Dudu Basantgarh Sub Division was to engage unemployed rural youth in healthy activities and inculcate a spirit of positive competition amongst the youth here. Winners of the Kabaddi event were Greenland Club Khaned who had beaten Government Higher Secondary School Basantgarh team comprehensively in a one sided final with a score of 32-21 in two half match infavour of winner. The other two teams which participated in Kabaddi event were Youth Hero Sports Club Basantgarh and Lucky Youth Club, Chakal.
Similarly, the winners of Volleyball event were Golden Youth Club Parla Dudu which had beaten Youth Hero Sports Club Basantgarh in a tough competition in finals with a score of 20-25, 25-13, 25-24 and 25-19 in a five set match. The other teams of the Sub Division which participated in Volleyball competition were Azad Youth Club Rasli Gaderein, Baba Vasuki Youth Club Gandhtop, Lucky Youth Club Chakal, Greenland Youth Club Khaned, Kirchi Royal Club Dudu, Skystar Youth Club Kulwanta and Government Higher Secondary School Basantgarh Team.
Enthralling performances were also given to the cultural troupes of Govt. High School Rasli Gaderein, Govt. Middle School Gandh Tagri and Skystar Youth Club Kulwanta for their enchanting performances in the two day event in which Skystar Youth Club Kulwanta won first prize for their Dogri folk song & Dance performance followed by GHS Rasli and GMS Gandh.
Apart from organizers, a large number of people from amongst locals witnessed the sports-cum-cultural meet on the last day and encouraged participants during the final matches.
