Rajouri-Poonch transporters oppose banking system | Penalization of traffic violators | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 19: Rajouri-Poonch Bus Service Association has appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda for their personal intervention in the issues which, according to them are not only threatening passenger transport sector but also posing potential security dangers in Jammu and twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. In an emergency meeting of the Rajouri-Poonch Bus Service Association held here today under the chairmanship of its President Bharat Bhushan Gupta, members have expressed deep concern over the callousness of authorities towards issues of passenger transport sector and security related challenges. Gupta reminded the Chief Minister that decisions of a meeting which he had chaired on request of the association in May last year orders were issued the same month have so far not been implemented by the authorities. He said that not only the authorities blatantly ignored the implementation of orders of the Chief Minister but they also violated many of the decisions taken there. Once of the decisions was a blanket ban on issuance of fresh permits but they issued 169 new route permits since then which had to be got stayed by the High Court. It was also decided in the meeting that a comprehensive requirement and feasibility survey shall be taken out before issuing any new route permits but no progress has been made on that front. Having exhausted of all expectations from the authorities, Gupta urged the media persons in Jammu to visit the BC Road on many morning and report in their papers how serious danger is looming there if lawlessness of contract carriage vehicles was not stopped forthwith. Meanwhile, expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Inspector General of traffic for their willingness to end corruption, Gupta said that the proposal of depositing challan money in the banks is neither practical nor useful as this will open further floodgates of corruption and waste huge time of transporters in shuttling between banks and the traffic officials. He said that instead of introducing banking system, existing system should be streamlined and made corruption free as money ultimately goes to government treasury and routing it through banks will not make any difference.
