GMC turns apathetic to ailment of poor heart patient | Govt help is only for offenders, not poor and needy | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct, 19: Every now and then, the state government claims to provide better facilities to its citizens and especially when it comes to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) people, the government goes far ahead in terms of claims and counter claims. In our state, government is most serious in rehabilitating surrendered militants and stone pelters but those who are poor and needy are made to suffer despite of the fact that there are different schemes with the government to help the needy people in the hour of need. One such example of official apathy is 45 year old Balwinder Kour, widow of Trilok Singh of Gole Gujral in Talab Tillo. This poor lady is bread earner for her three children and suffering from heart trouble and immediately needs pacemaker for survival but due to lack of financial assistance she is not been able to get treatment. The said lady had suffered a major heart attack on October 13 and shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and admitted in Critical Care Unit (CCU). The doctor who attended suggested her poor relatives to immediately go for heart surgery and implanting pacemaker but owing to her poverty she couldn’t arrange money for her operation and seen wailing. Doctors advised the attendants to approach the Chief Minister for financial assistance through his relief fund. They simply shrugged off their responsibility by referring her family to the Chief Minister. It largely leaves a question unanswered as to who would be responsible if she dies before securing the relief money. Is not it the responsibility of the Hospital authorities to present the case themselves.
