Shopkeeper selling poison in garb of sweets | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 19: As festival season is going on these days, there is huge demand of sweets made out of milk and “Khoya” but adulteration on large scale in sweets is also recorded of all time high due to failure of the Government machinery. The spurious Khoya is nothing less than a slow poison under the garb of sweets taking toll on the health of the innocent souls in and around Jammu city. Today, the officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) seized three quintals of artificial Khoya at Indira Chowk, Jammu. Yesterday also they also collected samples of various food items from different markets of Jammu. It's an open secret that the traders of death are openly selling poisonous Khoya the sweet makers with an only aim of minting huge sum of money in this opportune time. But questions arises that even a layman knows that dozens of quintals of Khoya is being reportedly dumped in Jammu markets through rail and road routes. And also adulteration is openly going on in majority of the sweet shops in the city. Pertinently, more than 10 quintals of Khoya is consumed daily in the winter capital itself and this demand increased many fold during the festival season. But local production is not sufficed to meet the growing demand particularly in the festival season. To meet this demand, the owners of the sweet shops including big and established ones import adulterated and duplicate Khoya from the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Just think for at least for a while, next time when you are being offered sweets during festive and marriage season people. People are consuming slow poison in shape of sweets unconsciously.
