Make Central University functional at the earliest: Harsh | NPP MLAs to hold dharna outside Parliament | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 21: Harsh Dev Singh former Education Minister and working chairman JKNPP has called upon the government to make the Central University Jammu functional at the earliest and without further loss of time. He said that the official red tape and culpable apathy on the part of government was responsible for inordinate and unreasonable delay in the launch of the said University. He regretted that out of 15 Central Universities sanctioned by government of India, it was only the Central University of Jammu which was being persistently ignored and its launching delayed much to the chagrin and disappointment of students, scholars, educated youth and common masses with no reason being given for the intemperate delay. He said the inexplicable and in-ordinate delay in start of the University had deprived thousands of students and scholars of the opportunity of seeking admission and pursuing other research courses during the current year in a premier educational institution. Singh said that the most unfortunate aspect of the matter was the fact that the proposed site for Central University Campus included 3000 kanals of Forest Land which had not even been acquired by the government. He said that the Forest Department had made a claim of Rs. 16.27 crores as compensation for the said Forest land use which had not been paid by the state government. Castigating the insensibility of the government towards the vital issue, Harsh Dev Singh urged upon the government and the Jammu based Ministers to respond to the uncertainties created by their prolonged silence which had created apprehensions in the minds of people about government intentions. He said the issue was repeatedly raised during the recently concluded session of Legislature at Srinagar but none of the Ministers had responded to the issue. He said that the local aspirations of the public for appointment of local Vice-Chancellor needed to be honored as Jammu had several eminent scholars and educationists of repute, who had established their credentials at national and even international level. Harsh Dev Singh said that the NPP MLAs would hold dharna in New Delhi outside Parliament House in case any further delay was caused in the establishment of the said University.
