JU Law students outshine in poetry contest

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 21: Department of Law, University of Jammu bagged the first
prize in poetry recitation competition organised by the Department of
Student Welfare under the ongoing Display Your Talent 2010-11.
“Har Bhasha Har Mazhab de Bande, Apne Gay te Saare ne,” a Dogri Poem
recited by Savita Devi from the Department of Law was adjudged best
poem while Nidhi Kaila also from the Department of Law, University of
Jammu clinched as second.
Deeksha Gupta from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology,
Jammu bagged the third prize in the contest.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Ishtiaq Ahmed from
Government MAM College, Jammu, Priyanka Bandral from Government Women
College, Udhampur, Geetika Kohli from The Business School, Sarang Vaid
from the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu,
Amita Verma from Bharitya College of Education, Udhampur and Paramjeet
Singh from the Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur.
Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium echoed with the thunderous applause by
the audience on every good piece of poetry and rendition.
The young poets, in their presentations, vociferously raised the
issues, related to the Women Empowerment, Female Foeticide, Dowry,
Patriotism, Communal Harmony and Brotherhood, Terrorism, Unemployment
and Environmental Degradation.
The participants recited the poetry of the established poets as well
as their self composed poems in Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and
English.
Noted Poets Arsh “Sehbai”, Ramesh Mehta and Mohan Singh Slathia were
the adjudicators for the said event.
Dr. Parmeshwari Sharma was the Teacher-in-Charge. The programme was
compeered by Gagandeep Sharma, Secretary, Students Cultural Council
and Madhvi Sharma, Cultural Secretary, Department of English
Among others Prof N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Jasbir
Singh, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee and the Teacher
in-Charges from various Colleges, were also present.
