PDP holds meet, discusses cross LoC trade | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 21: Senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan conducted a meeting of party members on the occasion of the second anniversary of cross LoC trade and apprised them of the progress and development of the ongoing trade. In a press release, he has appealed to the Central Government to institute and develop cross LoC Education Exchange Programmes on the lines of cross LoC trade and bus services. Khan said that despite difficulties and unending tension between the two countries, cross-LoC trade and bus service have been steady with little ups and downs. Cross LoC trade and bus service are not only giving a healing touch to the hearts of the people in the two countries but also giving them a chance to reunite with their loved ones separated during partition. Praising the Mufti Syeed regime for initiating and opening the road for trade, he said that the old and the aged on both the sides who had given all hopes of having at least a glimpse of their loved ones as also their land of birth, the cross LoC trade and bus service have provided some ray of light. Further Khan said that no doubt there are a number of obstacles including lack of smooth and functioning banking system, infrastructural shortcomings, effective communication system and a proper banking system as the mode of trade is the age old barter system. Despite all these deficiencies, trade has been going on and so has been the exchange of tourists on both the sides. Simultaneously with the trade measures, Khan proposed the Centre Government to start “Cross LoC Education Exchange Programme” as a CBM with Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University as the nodal institute on the Indian side and Muzaffarabad University in PoK. Children are the future of the nation and so their perspective and vision should be moulded from today. They should be given enough exposure of their own country as well as the neighbours. Just like we take the children on All-India tours, they can be sent to our neighbouring countries. It is pertinent to mention here that both the sides of LoC are culturally rich and such tying ups will help join the missing links. Besides, we have a large number of separated families on both the sides and Education Exchange Programme will help the new generation to reach and know their roots. Social networking sites can further gear up the movement. Not only this, Khan said that such programmes at college and University levels can “take our institutions at international standards.” Such a programme will not only help in promoting our education system thus giving a boost to our students as well as improving our culture but also the people especially of the border districts of Rajouri-Poonch who have close relatives to restore their relations. Moreover, this step will be a major Rajouri-Poonch specific CBM and the twin border districts should be given their due space. Others who spoke on the occasion were Mohammed Syeed, Jahangir Khan, Mohammed Shabir, Ch Manzoor, Aurangzeb, Zakaullah Khan, Maulvi Nawaz, etc.
