| 76 security personnel died in past year in J&K: DGP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Oct 21: Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Kuldeep Khoda on Thursday said 76 personnel of the security forces, including 49 policemen, have died over the past 12 months in the state. "In the state, 76 officers and jawans have died this year, including 49 from J&K Police, 14 from CRPF and 13 from BSF," DGP
Khoda said while addressing a function held to commemorate police martyrs' day in Srinagar. He said most of the securitymen have died in counter-insurgency operations and militant attacks in the state.
"The Valley has faced militancy for the last twenty years and we are maintaining a pressure on militants. We have succeeded in bringing peace and stability," Khoda said.
"War against terrorism will continue and the day is not far when we will be able to bring complete peace in Kashmir," he added.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was also present at the occasion, praised the role of police personnel, saying that they have faced difficult times in the state.
"We have gathered in Srinagar in memory of those brave men who laid down there lives for the nation," Omar said.
The police martyrs' day is being observed across the country in memory of 10 CRPF personnel who laid down their lives while repulsing a Chinese attack at the hot springs in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir on October 21, 1959.
