JMC continues drive against adulteration

JAMMU, Oct 21: Health officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) along with a team of food inspectors continued drive to check quality of food items being sold in the city especially during forthcoming Diwali Festival.
In an official handout issued here today, it has been stated that team with the cooperation of police force led by Station House Officer (SHO) Nowabad conducted a raid at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu and found milk cake which was being prepared in the name and style of different brands without permission and license from local health authority. One quintal sub-standard and most un-hygienically prepared milk cake along with bhatties were destroyed on the spot.
More than two quintals of sub-standard raw material i.e. refined oil, maize flour, milk powder, suji, sugar; artificial colours and alum were seized. Five domestic gas cylinders and premises were taken in possession by station house officer. The team also inspected various food establishments like sweet shops, workshops, milk and milk products shops in the areas of Old City, Railway Station Areas, Jewel Area, Canal Road, Bhagwati Nagar, Hari Market and Gandhi Nagar.
Besides this, the Municipal Veterinary Officer alongwith field staff conducted a drive against the adulteration of milk in the areas of Amphalla,New Plot, Janipur, Roop Nagar and Bantalab. They checked 62 milk cans, out which 18 samples were sent to the laboratory. Team also destroyed one milk can and a fine of Rs. 1800 was also realized from erring milk vendors on spot.
Further continuing the drive to check the menace of stray animals, the team lifted 17 stray animals from these areas. The stray animals were impounded in the municipal cattle pound. An amount of Rs. 3405 was also realized from the owners of stray animals. Besides this, a meeting of Building Operation Controlling Authority of Jammu Municipal Corporation was held today under the Chairmanship of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu S. C. Sawheny.
In the meeting, 65 building permission cases were cleared which shall generate revenue of Rs. 11 lakh for Jammu Municipal Corporation. Other members of Building Operation Controlling Authority besides Joint Commissioner (Adm), Joint Commissioner (Works) and Senior Town Planner of Jammu Municipal Corporation also attended the meeting.
