Congress sweeps LAHDC polls | | | M. Ramzan Khan EARLY TIMES REPORT Leh, Oct 21: The Congress in Leh today almost made a clean sweep in the 4th general election to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh. Out of twenty four seats, the results for which declared today, the Congress has bagged nineteen seats. Congress had already won two seats uncontested. With the declaration of the results Congress tally has now gone to twenty one out of total twenty six seats of LAHDC Leh. The BJP has won four seats while one seat went to independent candidate from Thicksay constituency. The four seats, from where the BJP has won are Sanker , Stok , Kungam and Sakti constituency. It was expected that there would be a tough competition between Congress and BJP but the Congress party secured a comfortable majority by winning 21 out of 26 seats. The counting began at 8 in the morning and finished at 6:30 in the evening. Thousands of supporters since morning waited with bated breaths for the announcement of results outside the counting hall. Later in the day, it was a party time at Congress district head quarter in which thousands of supporters of party candidates celebrated their victory. Most probably day after tomorrow the oath ceremony will be held for Executive Councilor and Chief Executive Councilor. |
