EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 22: Rains today forced the organizers, Jammu and Kashmir Softball Association to take shelter at the indoor complex thereby restricting the event to inaugural ceremony only on the opening day of the 23rd Sub-Junior National Softball Championship, here. Since the ground conditions were hardly conducive to hold the competition, the technical committee decided to schedule the matches from tomorrow onwards. In all, 20 teams representing various state units and two corporate houses have reported to the organizers for the participation. These include Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Orissa, Manipur, Uttrakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, HAL, IOC, Nagaland, Assam, Chandigarh and the host Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, the championship was declared open by Director General of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), SA Laharwal in a well attended function at Indoor Complex of the MA Stadium, here. Speaking to the participating teams, the chief guest welcomed the contingents and appreciated the organisers for holding the event in the state. He said that holding of national level championships in different disciplines of sports help encourage the young children towards sports. In his welcome address, Director DYSS, GM Dar, who happens to be the president of J&K Softball Association, presented a brief note of the tournament. The vote of thanks was presented by Abdul Rehman, vice-president of the association.
