Mehbooba demands compensation for fruit growers | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Expressing grave concern over huge losses to the farmers especially the fruit growers due to snowfall and heavy downpour in Shopian district, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti today urged the state government to immediately depute teams of officers to assess loss and give compensation to the affected farmers of this district. In a statement issued here today Mehbooba Mufti said that due to snow fall andhail storms, fruits of farmers in Shopian district in general and Wachi area have got badly damaged. She pointed out those farmers of Kashsipura, Reenapura, Kapran, Batgund, Tangam, Wangam and many other localities have suffered huge losses due to hostile weather conditions. She said that fruit growers of Kashmir Valley have already suffered huge losses due to prevailing unrest in the Valley and today’s downpours and hail storms have further damaged the fruits. She said that more than 80 percent of fruits in Shopian district were already on the trees and hail storms have damaged the fruits on the trees. MLA Shopian Abdul Razak Zoowara has also demanded compensation for the fruit growers affected by hail storms and heavy down pours. Razak, in a statement issue here today said that fruits of Kelar and adjoining localities were totally damaged due to the hail storms.
