MAM College wins debating contest

JAMMU, Oct 22: Government MAM College (Morning) has lifted Dr Jagmohan Singh Memorial Trophy in the Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Debating Contest organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu under the “Display Your Talent 2010-11”.
The team of MAM College consisting of Anshul Gupta and Sanjeet Bhagat represented the institution and bagged the coveted trophy.
Apoorva Jamwal from Government Women’s College, Parade, secured first individual prize while Rakshit Sharma from GGM Science College (Morning) and Raj Kumar Thakur from The Law School, University of Jammu, bagged the Second and Third individual prize, respectively.
The Certificates of Merit for individual performance, were awarded to Anshul Gupta from Govt MAM College (Morning), Jammu and Pryati Sharma from Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar.
The topic of the Debate was, in the opinion of House, “The Reservation for Women in Parliament, can bring in the Women Empowerment, in real sense”.
The competition was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr Vishva Raksha from the Department of Sociology, who was the Teacher in-Charge for this event. She also enlightened the participants about the importance of conducting the Debate on the said motion.
Students from the various Post Graduate Teaching Departments of the University and its Affiliated Colleges, expressed their views FOR and AGAINST the proposition. Each participant was given five minutes to speak in Hindi or English on the given topic.
Eminent Educationist Jagdish Chander, Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Professor in English and Priya Chakarborty-Giri, noted Journalist, were amongst the adjudicators for the Debating Contest.
The programme was compeered by Gagandeep Sharma, Secretary, Students Cultural Council and Madhvi Sharma, Cultural Secretary, Department of English.
Among others Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Jasbir Singh, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee and Vijay Atri, Assistant Dean (Cultural Affairs), were also present on this occasion.
