Great start by J&K boys, poor beginning by girls
23rd Sub-junior National Softball Championship

JAMMU, Oct 23: Host Jammu and Kashmir boys today made a great start by winning both their league matches while girls faced a defeat in the hands of Maharashtra in the ongoing 23rd Sub-junior National Softball Championship at MA Stadium, here today.
The well equipped side of state boys trounced Uttrakhand and Pondichery to consolidate their position in the group.
The visiting Uttrakhand side was beaten in a one sided contest. After winning the toss and opted to field first J&K pitchers supported by the fielders did an excellent job restricting the rival team to a low score.
Later, the batters played superbly to register a big 12-02 homes win. From J&K, Pushpinder Singh Manhas scored maximum three homes while Jaskaran contributed two. Amit and Vishal also scored a home each.
In another match played in the evening session, J&K blanked Pondicherry 10-0 to register their second consecutive win in the league round.
Other League Results: Punjab bt Uttar Pradesh 10-0 homes; Delhi bt Haryana 9-1; Chandigarh bt Assam 11-1, Uttrakhand bt Pondicherry 12-07; Chandigarh bt HAL by six homes; Madhya Pradesh bt Andhra Pradesh 4-3; Maharashtra bt Orissa 4-2; Kerala bt Rajasthan 16-0; Chandigarh bt 16-2
J&K girls lose to Maharshtra
Meanwhile, in girls section, J&K made a dismal start after the hosts lost to Maharashtra in their first outing. Maharashtra girls did not allow the opponent to even open the account winning the tie 6-0.
Other League Results: Punjab bt Chandigarh 11-1; Madhya Pradesh bt Himachal Pradesh 13-1; Delhi bt Uttrakhand 10-0; Kerala bt Uttrakhand 14-02.
Today's matches were witnessed besides others by Director General Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), S A Laharwal and Director, GM Dar.
